Mission Study
Introduction

During January and February 2004, our church conducted a Mission Study in order to understand and prioritize our missions. All members of the congregation were invited to particpate in the Mission Study Task Force meetings. The notes from each of those are posted in the "Meeting Notes" section.

Results: Our Mission Design

We, the Church, are called to be Christ's representatives in the world. Through our words and actions, we must challenge individuals to commit their lives to Jesus Christ. We believe God creates and sustains us, saves and liberates us in Jesus Christ, and transforms and empowers us through the Holy Spirit. Responding to God's calling and nurtured by the faithful witness of the Old and New Testaments, we joyfully claim membership in the Body of Christ.

In order to remain an active spiritual force in our rapidly changing community and world, we recognize the need to grow and nurture current and future members. We will expand our commitment to Jesus Christ through worship, education, ministries, programs, and fellowship. Our Church must encourage and enable each member to find his or her particular gift for ministry.

We praise God that we are called to serve Christ in love. We invite others to join us in this calling. Therefore, we intend to:

  1. Communicate effectively throughout the year the meaning of Christian stewardship and the mission of our congregation, encouraging all to meet these goals through the dedication of their energies, time, abilities, and money.
  2. Nurture members of all ages by offering support, comfort, friendship, encouragement, and social opportunities, as well as by knowing, developing, and drawing upon their talents and abilities.
  3. Implement the mission of our congregation by redefining our staffing needs, recruiting and training leadership at all levels, and improving communication throughout the congregation to be more current, inviting, personal, and accessible.
  4. Recruit and train education leaders in order to provide multiple opportunities throughout the year for all ages to grow in Christian faith.
  5. Build upon the existing worship life by expanding opportunities for lay participation, moments of special celebration, and innovative approaches to worship.
  6. Continue and expand our efforts to bring people into our congregation's community of faith by using a variety of proactive approaches to worship.
  7. Support existing and seek new opportunities to care for the needs of people beyond our congregation at the local, national, and international level through education and personal and financial contributions.
  8. Maintain and improve our property so that all who use it will find it spiritually inspiring, clean, safe, accessible, attractive, and comfortable.
